I am a street level activist who provides awareness about mental illness, addiction and homelessness in hopes of eliminating stigma, discrimination and unwarranted fears of the inflicted through my literature.
Published books are:
Adrian
The Peaceful Warrior: Memoirs of a Damaged Mind and Soul
City of Gardens: The Other Side of the Fence
Author Comments:
My writings are brutual at times for I am seperating the moral from the immoral. For those who are strong, they will continue to be part of our family and push on. The remainder will be left behind with their shame, humiliation and guilt in which they rightfully deserve.
Our homeless are dying on our streets. You cannot put a price tag on a human life, but most of us do. Governments, institutions and influential organizations use dollar signs all the time. Not once does a human name coincide with a number. My books don't care about stats, reports or numbers. I belive Terry, Renne and Steve more than what I could ever see on paper. My books are very important, but nothing will replace the magic you feel when you look a homeless person in the eyes.
My heart opens, emotions stir and my love flows when I talk to people on the street. In my eyes, these are the real people. They have nothing to lose, so there is no reason to lie. Politicians, community leaders and officials hide behind closed doors, protocol and political correctness. My friends and I do not have abything to protect, so what you get is the cold and hard facts.
This is an insensitive and cold society as well as being very selfish. We don't have the slightest clue of what life is all about if we do not make a little sacrifice for our brothers and sisters in need. A gentle smile, a handshake or a hot cup of coffee is usually all it takes to open your heart to love your neighbour.
Although, I am very pleased about my book series, it still sits pretty low on the Totem Pole as compared to my friends on the street. Personally, there are more important things than writing. As much as I love my work, I cannot stop to think of those people sitting in the cold rain on the streets while I drink a hot cup of tea. I have a lot of saddness in my heart for I believe that I am close enough to also feel their pain. Nothing else matters, but life itself.
